Q. What does H variable mean in CICON PLC instructions?

A. H variable in the instructions such as FROM / TO stands for “Hexadecimal.”

For instance,

   (Hexadecimal 504)

5 stands for 5th Expansion Base.

stands for Slot number 4.

→ Reason for using Hexadecimal (H) in the PLC instructions like FROM and TO is that by displaying it in hexadecimal, a user can easily figure out the location of a module used for this specific instruction.

→ If the PLC module location is displayed in Decimal or Binary as shown below, a user will not figure out the location of PLC unless the user calculates it to hexadecimal.

 FROM   1284   1   D0    2

→ Decimal ‘1284’ does not tell a user which base and which slot for the PLC being used for the ‘FROM’ instruction.

 FROM    010100000100    1    D0    2

→ Binary ‘010100000100’ does not tell a user which base and which slot for the PLC being used for the ‘FROM’ instruction.
